October 2015 E-Bulletin

In this October issue of our monthly E-bulletin, we share key highlights of the month such as the 15thanniversary of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325, a landmark legal and political framework that recognizes women as active agents of change in conflict prevention and resolution, acknowledges the different impact of conflict on women and men and underlines the need to include women in all aspects of peace processes. While some progress has been made to ensure women’s full participation in matters of peace and security, there is still much work to be done! Only 52 out of 196 countries have created National Action Plans (NAPs) to realize Resolution 1325, and those countries with a NAP face huge obstacles in implementation. Check out the Global Study on the Implementation of Resolution 1325 launched on 14th October and you can join online twitter conversation using the hashtags #UNSCR1325#1325at15,#GlobalStudy#1325means, #MoreWomenMorePeace.

On 15th October, in commemorating the International Day of Rural Women, FEMNET joined other organizations in calling on African governments to ensure that rural women are a central focus in the implementation of the newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by including and addressing the social and cultural factors which prevent their access, control and use of land.
